Volatile Week for Bitcoin ETFs as Funds Record Losses

bitcoin etf numbers daily

Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. experienced quite some volatility in the early days of the second week of 2025, with inflows and outflows painting a mixed picture for the funds. Over the three-day period, the funds recorded a sharp contrast between strong inflows on Monday and significant outflows by Wednesday.

Monday: Strong Start

The week began on a high note for Bitcoin ETFs, with the 11 funds collectively bringing in $978.6 million in inflows. Notably, Fidelity, BlackRock, and Ark Invest accounted for the bulk of these acquisitions, adding several hundred million dollars to their holdings. No outflows were recorded on Monday, setting an optimistic tone for the start of the week.

A Reversal on Tuesday

Tuesday saw the optimism taper off as most funds sold off some of their newly acquired Bitcoin. However, BlackRock bucked the trend, adding another $209.1 million to its holdings. Despite the sell-offs by other funds, the day ended with a slight net positive flow of $52.4 million, signaling that investor interest remained intact, albeit subdued.

Wednesday’s Outflows

By Wednesday, the trend had reversed entirely, with the Bitcoin ETFs recording substantial outflows across the board. Seven funds saw withdrawals, and no inflows were recorded. The total outflows were as follows:

  • Fidelity FBTC: $258.69 million
  • Ark Invest ARKB: $148.30 million
  • BlackRock IBIT: $124.05 million
  • Valkyrie BRRR: $14.10 million
  • Bitwise BITB: $11.26 million
  • Grayscale GBTC: $8.94 million
  • Invesco BTCo: $9.38 million
  • Franklin Templeton: $8.17 million

The remaining funds reported no inflows or outflows for the day.

The activity in Bitcoin ETFs coincided with a decline in Bitcoin’s price. Over the past few days, Bitcoin dropped from over $102,000 to its current level of $94,350. Despite the downturn, analysts remain optimistic about a potential rebound, citing strong long-term fundamentals for the cryptocurrency.
